COBOL is a language that already has quite a reputation: critical infrastructures to maintain, major costly strategic decisions, a lack (or even disappearance) of expertise, difficulties in recruitment, …
But it is also a constantly evolving ecosystem. Today, COBOL infrastructures and ecosystems are facing new challenges:
- artificial intelligence (what uses and needs?);
- open source and dependency on proprietary solutions;
- sovereignty;
- automatic migration (to which languages?);
- modernization of environments and interactions with other systems;
- how to regain new skills (is training a hopeful path?).
That’s why OCamlPro, in partnership with La communauté du COBOL, is launching a survey on COBOL in 2025 to provide an overview of its current usage.
The results will be shared by October 2025.
Please complete the survey before July 31.
